SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – TREASURES IN HEAVEN.

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. - Matthew 6:19-20.

Where do you hide your heart?

What we most value is where we will find our heart. So it is an important question. You see, we can treasure riches, control, security, and relationships.

Jesus reminds us that it is only by turning loose of the things that most of us keep as our treasures that we find what is truly treasure indeed.

Loving Heavenly Father, I pray that out of the riches of your grace, you may help me find my treasure in you, and nothing else. By the power of the Holy Spirit, I want to offer you all that I am and have, so that my life will be lived for your glory. In the mighty, and wonderful name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – WISDOM.

My brothers and sisters, can a fig tree bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Neither can a salt spring produce fresh water. Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. - James 3:12-13.

Wisdom is proven right by the character of a loving lifestyle.

It is so easy, however, for someone to be arrogantly intelligent, and be dumber than a post at spiritual wisdom.

Which are you closer to in your walk with Jesus, wisdom expressed through humble and loving lifestyle, or smart with feelings of superiority and arrogance?

Loving Heavenly Father, I know you have been a wise and loving Father to me. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to share that care you have lavished on me, on the person who most needs it today. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – BE DILIGENT!

Be diligent in these matters; give yourself wholly to them, so that everyone may see your progress. Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers. - 1Timothy 4:15-16.

“Be diligent!” That's not a saying you hear much about these days. We want things to come easily.

Sweat in the world of pseudo-faith is frowned upon. But, Paul wanted Timothy (and us) to know that maturity in Christ requires genuine effort. Having a redemptive influence on others is hard work. While it is God's power that transforms, our effort is also required.

God gives us the assurance, that this effort will not only bear fruit in our own lives, but it will also lead others to Salvation as well.

Loving Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, stir my confidence, courage, diligence, and determination, so that the Salvation you have blessed me with can be shared with others, because of my life, my teaching, and my example. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – DON’T SETTLE FOR ANYTHING LESS!!

I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life. - 1 John 5:13.

Yes, we can know! Don't settle for anything less!!

Confidence is so crucial that God sent his Son to die and be raised so we could know that life is our destination, not just our journey.

While that life is experienced now, it is only a hint, a foretaste, of what lies ahead in our future with the Lord.

Loving Heavenly Father, I thank you for your plan of salvation, and the cost you paid to make it happen. I thank you that I can now have confidence in my future with you as your child. I thank you for heaven, for hope, and for my home with you. To you belong all the glory and praise, and in your wonderful name, Lord Jesus, I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – BOAST ONLY IN THE CROSS!

May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world. - Galatians 6:14.

What is your source of pride?

Paul reminds us that our one, true, and reliable source of boasting, is in what the Lord has done for us on the Cross.

All other reasons to boast are fleeting glimpses at empty prominence, compared to the joy and assurance of sharing in Jesus' life, death, and resurrection.

Loving Heavenly Father, forgive me, for the times I have thought myself important because of some temporary achievement. Thank you for giving me a foundation source, of boasting in Jesus' love and grace, demonstrated in the Cross. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to be aware of these, at all times. In the mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – DON’T DISAPPOINT OUR FATHER.

If any of you are ashamed of me and my words, the Son of Man will be ashamed of you when he comes in his glory and in the glory of the Father and of the holy angels. - Luke 9:26.

Some of the saddest words a loving child ever can hear are these: "I'm so disappointed in you."

We don't want that to be the reaction of our Heavenly Father.

We want the world to know that we love and honour Jesus as Lord, so they can come to know our Saviour too, and that we can bring delight to our Father in Heaven, and not be a disappointment to Him!

Loving Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, give me boldness, wisdom, and respect as I seek to stand up for Jesus each day. May my words and my life, declare my allegiance to Jesus, as my Lord and Saviour. I ask this in His mighty name. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – SALVATION BELONGS TO OUR JESUS!

And they cried out in a loud voice: “Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb.” - Revelation 7:10.

From the voices of those who know, the message is clear!

God reigns and with his rule comes salvation. This is because of the Lamb who was willing to be slain, but who triumphed over death.

Because of the Lamb's work and faithfulness, we can be assured of heaven.

Loving Heavenly Father, I thank you for providing salvation, by extending your grace to me in Jesus. Thank you, Jesus, for offering yourself to be the Lamb sacrificed for my sins. I look forward to heaven and seeing you face to face, and praising you with the angels, the martyrs, the elders, and other faithful Christians before the throne. To you, O Lord, belongs all praise, honor, glory, and thanks. I ask this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – SPIRITUAL WARFARE!

Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. - Ephesians 6:13.

Since we are in a spiritual war, we must put on spiritual armour.

More than saying our daily prayers and perfunctorily reading our daily Scriptures, we must learn to recognise the spiritual armour God has given us for our spiritual protection and prepare ourselves for spiritual warfare. We should approach each day, each task, each Scripture, with a sense of urgency because we know we are at war.

The day of evil will come, so let's be ready to take our stand using the tools God has supplied, and the power he provides.

Loving Heavenly Father, empower me by your Holy Spirit; grant me boldness, because of your heavenly calling for me, and inspire me to be spiritually courageous, because of the example of Jesus. In the wonderful name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – GENTLENESS.

Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. - Philippians 4:5.

Extravagant over-reaction! That's what we're programmed to seek, and to display, in our modern world of sound bytes and over-hyped personality.

But gentleness, that moderating grace in the midst of chaos and conflict, is so vital to bring the peace of God to conflict-laden churches, families, and relationships. How can we be gentle, how can we restrain from over-reacting to the wounds, offenses, and slights that come our way?

The Lord is near! He is our vindication. He is our example. He is our comfort. He is our hope. He is our strength. He is near. We are not alone and our destiny, reputation, and value are not up to us to establish or to defend.

Loving Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to be gentle at all times, that my witness of you may be evident to all. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – SHARING OUR FAITH.

But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander. - 1 Peter 3:15-16.

How do we effectively share our faith, especially in situations hostile to faith?

First, we consciously submit our hearts to Christ as Lord. Second, we prepare a presentation of faith that focuses on the hope we have in Jesus. Finally, when we share our reason for hope, we do it with respect, gently sharing our faith with others.

Of course we would never have an opportunity to share our faith if we don't live a life of faith that makes an impact on those around us.

Loving Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to use my influence, and the quality of my life to bring others to Jesus. Grant me wisdom as I seek to bring the following friends to Christ: (Name them personally!) May my words and actions lead them closer to you, and show them my respect and love. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – REAL REFORM!

This is what the Lord Almighty, the God of Israel, says: Reform your ways and your actions, and I will let you live in this place. - Jeremiah 7:3.

We often take for granted what we have, where we live, the friends who bless our lives, and the family that gives us a place to belong and grow.

All of these are all gifts to us from God. We don't deserve them. We don't earn them. But, we can surely destroy them. God wants us to live obediently, not just to please him, but also to protect ourselves and those we love.

So let's reform our actions and live for him and not for ourselves.

Loving Heavenly Father, forgive me if I have taken my gifts for granted. Thank you for your love and forgiveness, and for all the gifts you have bestowed upon me. By the power of the Holy Spirit, empower me, as I seek to turn my life around to live passionately for you, and your glory. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – THE COST OF PEACE.

Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, - Romans 5:1.

The cost of peace is always high.

Our peace was purchased by Jesus' enormous sacrifice. God made sure the price for our rebellion was paid, but he didn't make us pay it because we could never have fulfilled our obligation.

Instead, God paid it himself in Jesus.

Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for making peace, and bringing me back to you, at great cost to you. Thank you, Lord Jesus, for willingly surrendering yourself to the horrible cruelty of theCross. Thank you that I'm not treated as your enemy because of my sin, but as a lost sheep that needs to be found. Thank you for adopting me as your beloved child. In the mighty name of Jesus I offer my thanks and praise. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – GOD’S GENEROSITY, GRACE, AND LOVE.

You may say to yourself, “My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.” But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your ancestors, as it is today. - Deuteronomy 8:17-18.

What do we have that wasn't given to us, either by God's generous grace, unexpected blessing, disciplining hardship, providential opportunity, or good health?

And when we stand before the throne of judgment, what will our claim to grace be? Our claimon grace is based only God's generous and loving gifts that have made us pure, holy, and whole! Nothing we possess, accomplish, or buy can give us such a claim.

Only God's generosity, grace, and love can bring heaven's greatest gifts to us.

Loving Heavenly Father, I thank you for your wonderful and extravagant blessings. All that I have, all that I am, and all that I ever hope to be, exists only because of the mercy or grace you have lavished upon me. I thank you again, in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – BLESSED ARE THE PEACEMAKERS!

Do not envy the violent or choose any of their ways. For the Lord detests the perverse but takes the upright into his confidence. - Proverbs 3:31-32.

While many are seeking a cure for the rampaging violence that destroys lives, threatens schools, and makes our streets unsafe, why has no one bothered to remind us what God's wise servant taught us centuries ago?

Let's not let any person, real or fictional, be our hero if his or her fame is built on violence. The son of Israel's most famous warrior understood this better than anyone.

Surely the Son of the Most Powerful on High said it best: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”

Loving Heavenly Father, save us from the violence of our culture, and the worship of violence that pervades our land. Please give us heroes who are true peacemakers. In addition, by the power of the Holy Spirit, please give us eyes to see them, and the courage to honor them. In ask this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. - Ephesians 5:15.

Living with urgency doesn't mean living irresponsibly.

It means living with a holy abandon to honour God, and with a holy passion to make each moment count for righteousness.

That means we must be deliberate about our choices, taking care that we use our opportunities wisely as we live a life of character different from the world around us, because we are committed to Jesus.

Loving Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, fill me with wisdom, that I may honour you with my choices, and use of time today and everyday. Protect me from the deceptive influences of the evil one, and grant me a holy and productive use, of the time you bless me with each day. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus my Lord, I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – DEMONSTRATE FOR GOD!

In their arrogance the wicked hunt down the weak, catching them in the schemes they devise. - Psalm 10:2.

God absolutely hates violence, intimidation, or any means used for the powerful to control, manipulate, or harass those who are weaker.

He loathes wickedness, which is based upon the strong and the mighty, plundering on the weak and powerless.

We should, by our actions and resources, demonstrate both to the weak and the powerless that there is a God of love.

Loving Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, give me a heart that despises the abuse of power, and the misuse of wealth. Thank you, Lord, for sending Jesus to save me when I was powerless to bring about my own salvation. My desire is to have a heart like Jesus, when I see others being taken advantage of. In the wonderful and mighty name Jesus, I ask this. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – LOVE THAT SURPASSES KNOWLEDGE!

So that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith. And I pray that you, being rooted and established in love, may have power, together with all the Lord’s people, to grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ, and to know this love that surpasses knowledge—that you may be filled to the measure of all the fullness of God. - Ephesians 3:17-19.

Love that surpasses knowledge.

That's very difficult to explain, but when you have loved your spouse for decades you experience what this means. When you love a child, and do what you never dreamed you could do for another human being, you understand this phrase.

And when you stand before God, adopted as a full heir of all His great riches, a full sibling to Jesus Christ the Lord, and know you are seen as holy without reproach, and blameless, you begin to understand this phrase.

Loving Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to know in my soul the lovethat is greater than words and knowledge, so that I may not only be like you, but that I may know you in experience, just as I know you in faith. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Love is demonstrated, not just said.

Love goes ahead sharing itself instead of waiting until things are easy or safe. Love redeems when all hope seems lost.

Love is not only what God is, but it is also what he does and what he gives.

Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for loving me so extravagantly. By the power of the Holy Spirit help me to see the opportunities to love others whom you place in my path everyday. Use me to demonstrate your love to someone today and each day that follows. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – A PASSION FOR GRACE TOWARDS OTHERS!

For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you. - Matthew 7:2.

Jesus is concerned that we not have a critical spirit toward others, especially about their motives as to why they did something.

We can't assume to know another person's heart; only God can. When we are unfairly critical, overly harsh, or unduly judgmental, we need to remember that God will use that same standard on us. I don't know about you, but I need grace. So do those I love.

I'm going to try very hard to be as gracious toward others, as I'm trusting that God, is going to be gracious with me.

Loving Heavenly Father, forgive me, for the times that I've been far more critical of others than I should be. Arouse within me a passion to be gracious toward others so that they can see your graciousness shining through me. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – A NEW WAY TO SERVE GOD!

But now, by dying to what once bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written code. - Romans 7:6.

We are free from Law! Does that mean anarchy and lawlessness? Absolutely not!

No, because the grace that freed us also brought God's Holy Spirit to live within. He can empower us to do what we could not do on our own. He can help us in our weakness to praywith confidence and boldness to the Father. With His help, we are brought into a circle of responsible people, tied by the grace of God, and the Spirit of Christ.

Thank God for the “new way!”

Loving Heavenly Father, thank you for redeeming and delivering me from the requirements of law, and placing your Holy Spirit in my heart to help me be more than I could ever be, trying to obey the Law. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus, I praise you. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – RICH THE WISE WAY!

Those who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge people into ruin and destruction. - 1Timothy 6:9.

This is not a message for folks who are financially rich.

No, this is for all of us who want to have that wealth. Craving it, coveting it, and going in pursuit of earthly wealth expose us to grave danger.

Let's be reminded of the words Jesus: Seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added unto you.

Loving Heavenly Father, I thank you for your many blessings. By the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to be satisfied, and generous with the blessings you have already given to me. Help me to keep my focus on you and your Son! In the wonderful and mighty name of your Son and my Saviour, Jesus, I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – JESUS RISEN AND EXHALTED!

The God of our ancestors raised Jesus from the dead—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross. - Acts 5:30.

Peter is making clear that his faith in Jesus didn't just begin with Jesus, it began with the Patriarchs, the great Jewish fathers.

The God who blessed them also raised Jesus from the dead, even though Jesus had been executed in the most atrocious and humiliating way possible for a faithful Jew. He was nailed to a cross, wholly illegal, and a sign of being cursed under Jewish Law.

Praise God! He raised Jesus from the dead, exalted Him, and made him our Saviour and our Lord.

Loving Heavenly Father, I thank you for showing your power over evil, sin, hate, jealousy, and death. And I thank you that Jesus was raised from the dead and exhalted. In the wonderful name of Jesus, my Lord and Saviour, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, I offer my praise and thanksgiving. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – AMAZEMENT AND AWE!

Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, “We have seen remarkable things today.” - Luke 5:26.

Jesus forgave a man who was lame, and then showed He had authority to forgive, by healing him.

As exciting and important as this healing was, the most important thing was the response of those who witnessed it; they praised God out of a sense of amazed awe. They recognised that Jesus had come to minister as God's very presence.

When we understand who Jesus is and what He has done for us, and will continue to do for us, we do the same thing today; we offer our praises with a sense of amazement and awe.

Loving Heavenly Father, I venerate your name, and thank you for your grace which you so lavishly poured out on me through your Son and my Saviour, Jesus, in whose wonderful name I offer this praise. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – DISCIPLESHIP VALUES.

Everyone will hate you because of me, but those who stand firm to the end will be saved. - Matthew 10:22.

Jesus' words are very strong! His emphasis is for a reason. Christians need to realise that they are not going to be the dominant culture. Discipleship can be hard and demanding; most folks want things simple and easy.

The values that disciples are called to put into place in their lives are not going to be the dominant cultural ones. "So be ready!" Jesus is telling us. "Be ready to face criticism and rejection." But while we know it may be an uphill battle to change the hearts of men and women, we can be God's tool to bless others and to lead them closer to him!

And for us, salvation in all its glory awaits us at the end of the journey.

Loving Heavenly Father, forgive me for the times I have grown impatient with the world around and started seeing it as the enemy rather than as the target of your grace. By the power of the Holy Spirit, give me the wisdom and the courage to balance my understanding of the world, with your passion to redeem it. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – STAND UP FOR JESUS!

Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings! - Acts 5:29.

Against a stern warning from the ruling council in Jerusalem, called the Sanhedrin, Peter and the apostles proclaimed Jesus as Lord.

They knew that Jesus had triumphed over the attempts of his enemies to extinguish Him and His ministry. The apostles blatantly disobeyed the orders of the very same people who had Jesus crucified. By any standard, that is faithful courage.

How are you doing in the "standing up for Jesus" battle?

Loving Heavenly Father, empower me by your Holy Spirit to be bold. With His help, I do not want to ever back down from my convictions, nor ever renounce my faith in Jesus, in whose wonderful and mighty name I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – RUN TO JESUS!

Lord my God, I take refuge in you; save and deliver me from all who pursue me, or they will tear me apart like a lion and rip me to pieces with no one to rescue me. - Psalm 7:1.

Who or what is pursuing you?

Is it a past mistake? Is it an old enemy? Is it your conscience? Is it a nagging sense of guilt? Is it someone who wants to do you physical harm? Is it a physical illness? In the middle of all the storms and struggles of life, where do you go to find peace and security?

There is only One who can be a true and lasting refuge. Just One!

Loving Heavenly Father, you are my refuge and source of strength when my courage is gone and my soul is weary. Lord, destroy all the forces and powers and enemies that pursue me, that seek to take me captive and draw me away from you. I ask this in the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – PURE LOVE!

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Romans 5:8.

God didn't wait till we were “good enough” to bring us His Salvation. Instead, He came when we were most lost, and needed His grace the most.

But then, that's what love really means by God's definition… For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. – John 3:16.

It's more than something declared or felt, it's something radically demonstrated.

Loving Heavenly Father, I thank you, for demonstrating your love in such powerful, radical, and sacrificial way. By the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to share this love, with those who don’t know you yet. I ask this in the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Sing to God, sing in praise of his name, extol him who rides on the clouds; rejoice before him—his name is the LORD. A father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, is God in his holy dwelling. - Psalm 68:4-5.

Every time I read the above scripture, I can't help but think of what James, the brother of Jesus said: Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world. - James 1:27.

The principles which James specifies are:

(1) That pure religion will lead to a life of practical kindness;
(2) That it will keep us unpolluted from the world.

If these things are found, they show that there is true Godliness. If they are not, there is none.

Without a doubt, Jesus showed clearly, that this was the Father's heart in His ministry. Now it is up to us to continue it!

Loving Heavenly Father, may my life, my compassion, and my ministry reflect your heart for those who need care and protection and love. By the power of the Holy Spirit, give me eyes to see this need more clearly, and a heart to respond more positively, so that your love may be demonstrated through me. I ask this in the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Then Jesus declared, "I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty. - John 6:35. TNIV

We all require food and drink at regular intervals during the day. For most of us at the weekend, food and drink occupies our thoughts, and fills up most of our activities; Breakfast, Lunch, Brunch, Sunday Lunch, Dining Out, Home Baking, BBQ’S, etc;

But deep in our soul is a hunger, a soul hunger. So deep, that it cannot be satisfied by food, drink, or chemicals. This hunger was the craving built into us by our Creator, positioned there, when He created us in our mother's womb.

This soul hunger can only be satiated by Jesus. Praise His wonderful Name!

Loving Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, give me today my daily Bread, that I may find life in all it’s fullness. Precious Jesus, my Lord and Saviour, fill me and touch me with your presence, so that I can serve you by blessing those around me with your grace. I ask this in your mighty name. Amen.

Yours, LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, LORD, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. - 1 Chronicles 29:11. TNIV

Praise is letting God know we recognise Him for who He is, what He has done, and what He is doing.

But more than informing God of His greatness, majesty and splendour, praise is rejoicing before Him in His magnitude, and recognising that not only is His grace without comparison, His majesty, might, holiness, faithfulness, righteousness, mercy, love, forgiveness and justice, are without comparison. Hallelujah!

Praise is grateful celebration that He is almighty God, and even more importantly, that He is our God.

Loving Father, you are truly worthy of my pure words, pure thoughts, and pure dreams. I worship and submit to you, and I rejoice that you are who you are. I celebrate what you have done, and yet I long for what you are yet to do. You are magnificent, my Father and my God. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus, and because of His matchless love, I praise you. Amen.

The book of Ephesians makes some of the greatest declarations in the entire Bible about the grace of God.

This one, however, may be the very richest. Grace is offered to us whether we accept it or not.

Grace is with us in rich abundance and blessing, as we love Jesus and hang on to his love, with a grip of faith that is unwavering.

Loving Father, I do love you, and your Son Jesus with all my heart. Forgive me, when my display of this passion dims, and my communication of His grace to others wanes. SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – GENEROUS GRACE AND INCREDIBLE LOVE.

Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. Because of what law? The law that requires works? No, because of the "law" that requires faith. For we maintain that a person is justified by faith apart from observing the law. - Romans 3:27-28. TNIV

God's Salvation leaves us no room for boasting, for we could not live up to the righteous demands of the Law.

When we are broken and sinful, God purchases our salvation by sending Jesus, and allowing Him to pay the debt for our sin.

We have nothing to boast about, except the overwhelmingly generous grace of God, and the incredible sacrificial love of our Saviour, Jesus. Hallelujah! What a Saviour!

Loving Father, I thank you for redeeming me from the righteous judgment of the Law. Thank you, Jesus, for paying the debt for my sins. Thank you, Holy Spirit, for cleansing me and making me holy. Thank you, Lord, for your generous grace and incredible love. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do. Be careful, however, that the exercise of your rights does not become a stumbling block to the weak. - 1 Corinthians 8:8-9.

We have incredible liberty under grace.

H owever, our liberty never gives us the right to destroy a weak brother or sister's walk with the Lord. Let's use our liberty caringly, especially toward our new brothers and sisters in Christ.

These new Christians need our encouragement; they already have enough stumbling blocks!

Loving Father, I thank you for your abundant grace. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to be an encouragement, and a good example to new Christians, also to those who are weak in theirfaith. Help me guard my life from being a bad example to others. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – PRAISE GOD FOR THE LAW!

So the law was put in charge of us until Christ came that we might be justified by faith. - Galatians 3:24. TNIV

The book of Galatians reminds us again and again, that law cannot make us righteous or save us, not even the Old Testament Law.

However, the Law does one very important thing, it leads us to Christ. We recognise right and wrong because of the Law. We also recognise our failures, imperfections, sins, transgressions, and weaknesses, because of the Law, but most of all, we recognise our need for a Saviour because of the Law.

Praise God for the Law, and praise God a thousand times more for Jesus!

Loving Father, We thank you that you gave us the law, so that we would recognise that we needed a Saviour. Thank you that you sent your dear son Jesus, so that we could be saved. We praise you Jesus, our Lord and Saviour, in whose name we pray. Amen.

But Moses said to the LORD, "If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?" – Exodus 6:12. TNIV

Moses had to be taught the same lesson most of us have to be taught; most people really don't care how we say it, but, they know it is important that we do we say it.

If the truth be known, most of us can't say it very well, anyway. But, when we offer ourselves to the Lord, He truly works through us, and uses us in powerful ways. Moses is the great testimony that God can take a shepherd with uncertain speech and turn him into the supreme leader of his time.

Don't you think, we had better ask what God wants to do with us, and then get on with achieving it?

Loving Father, use me in your service. I recognise that all the gifts, abilities, and experiences that I have, all come from you. All my capabilities are given to me so I can bring glory to you. By the power of the Holy Spirit, enable me to use my abilities for your glory. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

“New and Better!” That should be tattooed across the forehead of every Christian!

When we come to Christ, He makes us new and He cleanses us of all our sins. Amazingly, this grace can be “new every morning,” because of God's faithfulness and transforming power. God's grace and power are given to us through his Holy Spirit.

We are new and better, and will continue to be that way until we are completely transformed to be like Jesus!

Loving Father, have your way with my heart, my will, my life, and my time. I want to yield myself to you so that you can make me new and better. I don't want to be satisfied with where you have brought me. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to become more like Jesus today, and each day of my life that follows. We run after after so many materialistic things, but only one important thing is really required.

Having a bankbook full of money, a great big house, a fancy flash car, and lots of status, doesn't mean a whole lot if you've gone to your final destination without the Lord. Even worse, is to find that in the middle of your unimportant pursuits, you awake to find yourself in the desolate territory, where Christ does not dwell and life is not found.

Let’s get our souls right, and we will get our priorities right!

Loving Father, help me by the power of the Holy Spirit to get my priorities right, by keeping my life holy, and my heart obedient to your will, rather than being captivated with my own selfishness. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

We are at war! We face a daily battle, and it is not just with sin and temptation.

We have a real enemy whose desire for us is our annihilation. But, our enemy has already been conquered, and his demons stand rebuked.

So, let's keep our spiritual vitality knowing that we're not playing church, but fighting for the Kingdom, for the lost, and for our loved ones.

Lord Jesus, my victorious and conquering King, I praise you for conquering sin, death, and the law for us, for making us righteous and sinless, by your grace. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to know that I am on the winning side, and that I can confidently take your gospel, to the lost and to my loved ones. "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world." - John 16:33. TNIV

This world is a place of struggle. Yes, we can live above the struggle for a short time, or we can find a way to simply ignore, or re-label the struggle for a time, but in the end, the struggle will find us.

However, in the midst of struggle, we can remind ourselves that our victory is secure. Jesus has won! We will share in His great triumph.

In case you don't know, the final result is already determined, and Christians win big-time through Jesus. Hallelujah! Praise His mighty name!

Loving Father, I thank you for giving me the victory, through Jesus Christ my Lord. I welcome the future with eagerness, because I know that each day brings me nearer to you, and the magnificent future you have planned for all of your children. SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – JESUS OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS.

But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, - Romans 3:21-22.

The Old Testament looks forward to a new time, a time when law is not the basis of righteousness. The Law and Prophets testify to this time. This righteousness comes from God, and is built on the sacrificial work of Jesus who frees us from law, and brings us God's grace.

The real issue for us is trust; many today confuse believing with simply thinking something in one's head, while the Bible sees belief as something that involves our heart, and changes our behaviour.

So what is the basis on which you are building your life today? What is the measure of your righteousness? On what is your security tied? Thank God we can trust our life, our future, and our salvation to Jesus Christ, and not to law-keeping.

Loving Father, thank you so much for providing me with a Saviour in Jesus. Thank you for declaring me righteous through the sacrifice of your Son. By the power of the Holy Spirit, help me as I entrust my life and salvation to Jesus, so that his life and character can be exemplified in the way that I live. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Sometimes the key to survival is simply a matter of “keeping our chin up,” and going on faithfully trusting that God is there helping us, despite the outward circumstances.

Choosing to be joyful in hope, rather than despair; choosing patience in times of affliction, and choosing faithfulness in prayer, are all decisions that we need to make, whenever troubles arise.

Then we can have confidence that God, who raised Jesus from the dead, can also alter our situations because he hears our prayers.

Loving Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, create in me a steadfast heart, so that I might persevere with joy no matter what troubles come up. I ask this in the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. - Matthew 7:13-14.

The world wants a Saviour but not a Lord. The New Testament is clear; a Saviour who is not Lord is no Saviour, and no friend.

If the Old Testament showed us anything, it is that God's seemingly peculiar laws were written not for His enthrallment, but for His people's perpetuation.

Let us not only call Jesus Lord this week, but let us live in a way that shows that He controls our lives, and His Spirit produces our character.

Loving Father, take control of my life and my will so I may be wholly yours, not just in word, but in thought and in deed as well. I ask this in the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

We can have a wonderful start to a New Year, if we understand that God provides beauty to the flowers, and life to the grass.

In the majestic design of things, these are fleeting and unimportant.

He sent His Son from Heaven to save us. So, He most certainly is going to give us what we need, until we go home to live with Him forever!

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, while we wait for the blessed hope—the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. - Titus 2:11-14.

In a world that has no absolutes, in a world in search of moral standards, salvation by the costly grace of God, beckons us to change our lifestyle in response to God's grace.

Anyone who receives grace, and refuses to pursue righteousness, demonstrates his/her ignorance or hardness of heart.

In our day, in our time, to be saved means to pursue righteousness, not so that we may earn our salvation, but so that God's saving grace will not be fruitless in us.

Loving Father, because you have been so gracious with me, may my life today, reflect the righteousness you gave me through Jesus. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to pursue righteousness, so that I may bring glory to your name. I ask this in the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus, my Lord and my redeemer. Amen.

To the world I say, there is no help for me but in my God; and I expect it from no other provider.

Loving Father, it absolutely bewilders and delights me, to know that you care for me. With all the things of such vast importance, I find your desire to know and love me humbling and assuring. CHRISTMAS TREES CHOPPED

CHRISTMAS decorations have been banned from three out of four workplaces - because they might offend other faiths.

Law firm Peninsula said a "wave" of political correctness was affecting festive traditions.

A survey of 2300 employers found that 74 per cent had banned decorations because of other faiths, while half thought they made offices look unprofessional.

Peter Done, managing director of Peninsula, said: "Although employers who are enforcing the ban are sceptical and dismayed by this trend, they feel that they have little choice in the matter due to the threat of litigation. "They have to protect themselves, their reputation and their livelihood."

Meanwhile, another report shows many workers have to spend their own money at office Christmas parties. A survey of 1200 adults by supermarket chain Somerfield showed only a third got a completely free night at the annual office bash.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG - GOD'S DETEST LIST!

The LORD detests those whose hearts are perverse, but he delights in those whose ways are blameless. - Proverbs 11:20. TNIV

Phew! I surely wouldn't want to be on God's “I detest” list! Such people are a disgrace to Him.

But what is a perverse heart? It is a heart that allows what is evil, poisoned, perverted, greedy, deceitful, and vicious, to have control over a person's attitudes, views, and opinions. Ultimately, Jesus reminds us, that such a heart shows up in a person's outward actions.

How is our heart changed? By coming to God in repentance, confessing our association with what is evil and sinful, and asking God to cleanse us by the precious blood of Jesus, and refresh the Holy Spirit’s presence in us.

Loving Father, generate in me a new heart, and renew your Holy Spirit's presence in me. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

JAMES BOND 007... ROYALE FAMILY.

A HOST of stars came out in force last night for the premiere of the long-awaited James Bond film Casino Royale.

Looking as suave as his character, controversial new 007 Daniel Craig greeted screaming fans during a short walkabout.

But it was his co-star Eva Green who stole the show in London's Leicester Square. She plays Vesper Lynd, the first Bond girl penned by 007's creator Ian Fleming. Eva turned heads despite an array of stars including singer Rachel Stevens, Sarah Harding of Girls Aloud and Dame Shirley Bassey. Other big names at the premiere included Sir Elton John and partner David Furnish and the Osbournes.

Craig, 38, was joined by his film producer girlfriend Satsuki Mitchell, 29. Speaking outside the premiere, he said: "I can't explain how this feels. It's fantastic. "I'm just very excited. These sort of things happen once in a lifetime and I'mjust trying to enjoy it."

The successor to Pierce Brosnan plays a tougher and grittier Bond in the 21st movie of the series. Asked how he compares with predecessors, he replied: "It's not up to me. Casino Royale is still a Bond movie and there's a love story."

When asked how it felt to be one of Hollywood's newest sex symbols, he said: "I don't think about that."

Craig raised eyebrows among die-hard fans of the secret agent as he has blond locks and contrasted with the image of the screen hero.

When quizzed on whether he had answered his critics, the actor replied: "I didn't try to do that. I tried to make a good movie."

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – PRAISE YOU JESUS!

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: "Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole."- Galatians 3:13.

Cursed! Not just in the sense that he was mocked and his detractors cursed at Him, but in the sense that He received the curse of death because of our sin.

He did what was hideous and scandalous; He died on a Cross, hung to a tree in front of a jeering mob, executed like sub-human scum. But the beauty of His shame and disgrace is that God made it our redemption. Jesus' ridicule and curse bought us freedom from the curse of our own sins.

Praise God! Praise Jesus! Praise His wonderful and mighty name!

Loving Father, I thank you that Jesus died for me that would be set free from the curse of sin. Help me Holy Spirit to make my thoughts and words, convey the gratitude of my heart, as He intercedes for me now. Thank you! Praise you! May my life truly honor you! In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, "Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?" "Who are you, Lord?" Saul asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting," he replied. - Acts 9:4-5.

When Paul teaches that the Church is the Body of Christ, he isn't being theoretical. The Church is Jesus' presence, His Body in this world.

What is done to the Church as a collective group of people is done to Jesus. What is done to individual Christians is done to their Saviour. Jesus is present in the world through us!

This saying is true: The only Jesus many will see today is the Jesus they see through you and me.

Loving Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to show others, Jesus in me. Help me to show His love, compassion, mercy, peace, joy, gentleness, kindness, and that others may benefit from seeing Him in me. I ask this in the wonderful and mighty name of my Lord and Saviour. Amen.

WEEKEND ENCOURAGEMENT #1.

It's the weekend in Australia, and we have a bit of time to do things we normally wouldn't. So I thought that I would use some of my time to encourage intermittent Bloggers to blog more, and at the same time encourage myself to blog more.

Brodie McGregor of "View From The Basement" brought up these 7 thoughts in March 2005 that encouraged me greatly, as a new Blogger, (this is my other blog,) so I thought that I would like to share with you what he shared, that encouraged me greatly...

What's a blog for?
TallSkinnyKiwi, recently posted on the bloggers 7 deadly sins. This got me thinking afresh about what a blog is for, why I blog and read blogs. So here's my humble 7 thoughts on blogging;

(1) Blogs are a place for sharing, be that about what's going on in your life, the world or resources you want to make available to others.

(2) Blogs are a place for giving - so if you make something available don't charge for it. Johnny Baker's, worship tricks are a fabulous example of giving on the blog.

(3) Blogs are a place to be vulnerable - ok there needs to be an appropriateness and some sense here. If I was having a problem with some one my blog is not the place to vent this. But if there is to be a genuine sharing and giving then that does mean there's a vulnerability. We're all vulnerable to people commenting on what we post, and vulnerable to people misappropriating what we give.

(4) Blogs should be places of encouragement - I think it's good to if you regularly read a blog post a comment every so often, even if you don't particularly connect with that post. I think it's particularly important to encourage those who don't get many comments and yet are doing good stuff.

(5) Blogs should be varied - it's good to have a mix of serious stuff and fun things to.

(6) Blogs should enrich - it's easy to be negative, and takes more effort and creativity at times to be positive. Also it's good to keep a balance between spending time with friends I can have a meal with and "do coffee" and friends whom I may never meet except on the blog.

(7) Blogs should be regular.

I believe the thoughts that Brodie shared were excellent , (not just because he's Scottish!) :-) Maybe you would like to add to them and encourage others!

What is the greatest construction project built by human hands? Jesus is greater still!

What is the most ‘holy’ place you have been? Jesus is far holier still!

What is the most awe-inspiring site you have visited? Jesus is far more awesome!

What is the most inspiring event you have ever attended? Jesus is far more...

Jesus is the One Who Is Greater! Nothing else, no one else, can hold a candle to Him. As John the Baptist said… none of us are even worthy to untie His sandals.

Loving Father, I thank you that by the power of the Holy Spirit, you revealed to me Jesus, the Way, the Truth, and the Life. Forgive me for the times I may have misused His name or underestimated His glory. Restore in me the child-like sense of joyous wonder that I need to have in His presence. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SATURDAY'S SILLY JOKE!

Three golfing partners died in a car wreck and went to heaven. Upon arrival they discover the most beautiful golf course they have ever seen. St. Peter tells them that they are all welcome to play the course, but he cautions them that there is only one rule: Don't hit the ducks.

The men all have blank expressions, and finally one of them asks "The ducks?"

"Yes", St. Peter replies, "There are millions of ducks walking around the course and if one gets hit, he squawks then the one next to him squawks and soon they're all squawkin to beat the band, and it really breaks the tranquility. If you hit the ducks, you'll be punished, otherwise everything is yours to enjoy."

After entering the course, the men noted that there was indeed a gaggle of ducks everywhere. Within fifteen minutes, one of the guys hit one of them. The duck squawked, the one next to it squawked and soon there was a deafening roar of duck quacks.

St. Peter walked up with an extremely homely woman in tow and asked "Who hit the duck?" The one who had done it admitted "I did."

Immediately, St. Peter pulled out a pair of handcuffs and cuffed the man's right hand to the homely woman's left hand. "I told you not to hit the ducks," he said. "Now you'll be handcuffed together for eternity.

The other two men were very cautious not to hit any ducks, but a couple of weeks later, one of them accidentally did. The quacks were as deafening as before and within minutes St. Peter walked up with an even uglier woman than before. St. Peter determined which one had hit the duck by the fear in his face, and cuffed the man's right hand to the homely woman's left hand.

"I told you not to hit the ducks", he said. "Now you'll be handcuffed together for eternity."

The third man was extremely careful. Some days he wouldn't even move for fear of even nudging a duck. After three months of this he still hadn't hit a duck. St. Peter walked up to the man at the end of the three months and had with him a knock-out gorgeous woman, the most beautiful woman the man had ever seen. St. Peter smiled to the man and then, without a word, handcuffed him to the beautiful woman and walked off.

The man, knowing that he would be handcuffed to this woman for eternity, let out a sigh and said "What have I done to deserve this?"

The woman responded "I don't know about you, but I hit a duck."

Flesh gives birth to flesh, but the Spirit gives birth to spirit. You should not be surprised at my saying, 'You must be born again.' – John 3:6-7.

In his book, An Anthropologist on Mars, neurologist Oliver Sacks tells about Virgil, a man who had been blind from early childhood. When he was 50, Virgil underwent surgery and was given the gift of sight. But as he and Dr. Sacks found out, having the physical capacity for sight is not the same as seeing.

Virgil's first experiences with sight were confusing. He was able to make out colors and movements, but arranging them into a coherent picture was more difficult. Over time he learned to identify various objects, but his habits--his behaviors--were still those of a blind man. Dr. Sacks asserts, "One must die as a blind person to be born again as a seeing person. It is the interim, the limbo . . . that is so terrible."

To truly see Jesus and his truth means more than observing what he did or said, it means a change of identity.

When a person receives appropriate recognition for his long service or high achievements, that is an award.

London businessman Lindsay Clegg told the story of a warehouse property he was selling. The building had been empty for months and needed repairs. Vandals had damaged the doors, smashed the windows, and strewn trash around the interior.

As he showed a prospective buyer the property, Clegg took pains to say that he would replace the broken windows, bring in a crew to correct any structural damage, and clean out the garbage.

"Forget about the repairs," the buyer said. "When I buy this place, I'm going to build something completely different. I don't want the building; I want the site."

Compared with the renovation God has in mind, our efforts to improve our own lives are as trivial as sweeping a warehouse slated for the wrecking ball. TERRY BUTCHER... DEAD MAN WALKING?

Well it looks like the knives are out and the backstabbing of Terry Butcher has begun. It also looks like the B-grade movie actors and furniture salesmen have done a great job of destablising Sydney FC.

It's just another setback for soccer in australia, as we keep on doing the same old things... allowing inexperienced boards to keep paying out enormous money for second rate players who have seen their used by dates. They are ok for a couple of games and then the niggling injuries that have plagued their playing careers start to surface.

Let's face it, Sydney FC were pretty ordinary last year, even though they won the the Grand final. Then they did a good thing by getting rid of the clinical Littbarski, a (seen the best of) playboy player, who isn't doing too well for Sunderland, but grinning all the way to the bank!

Enter, an experienced, hard working, adventurous coach, who has inherited Littbarski's team of big screen watchers, and has to try and bring out their potential, which means trying to get them to act like professional players, instead of trying to look like York and Carboni wannabees.

It must be difficult for Butcher who want's to build a great Australian soccer team on true and tried methods, whilst sitting on a plastic chair, on the sideline of someone else's stadium.

It must be difficult to build a team of professional players for the season's ahead, that will showcase Australian soccer, and show that we are not going to be bullied by Anthony LaPaglia, an ex-goalkeeper who couldn't make the grade here, and boardroom members who have no experience in soccer, and will continue to lose money for the clubs, as they did in days gone past, with their 'marquee' and archaic players.

It must be difficult for Terry Butcher to see so many of Australia's talented youngsters, having to take a back seat to foreign imports and soccer relics of days gone by.

It must be difficult to try and bring the best out of these boys, having only been in charge for a few games, and having to put up with all the off-field antics of boardroom prima donnas.

It must be difficult for Terry's wife and family, who have moved half way across the globe, to support her husband's endeavours to bring about some professionalism to Australian football.

It isn't difficult to have some patience, and give Terry Butcher some time to prove his vision for Sydney FC, and for sake of Australian soccer.

THIS GUY SHOULD DISAPPEAR... "Without A Trace!"

Although I am a Queensland Roar supporter, this kind of verbal garbage doesn't help Sydney FC, or Australian soccer. He should stick to what he knows best... bad acting!

THE future of Sydney FC coach Terry Butcher hangs in the balance today after the Englishman survived a shock bid to oust him from Hollywood star Anthony LaPaglia.

The multi-millionaire Without A Trace actor, who owns seven-and-a-half per cent of the club, arrived in Australia on Friday just in time to catch Sydney's latest loss against Melbourne.

Beforehand, he attended an informal meeting of several board members at the Sydney Art Gallery with chairman Edmund Capon, and directors Peter Fitzgerald, representative of the all powerful Lowy clan, part owner Peter Turnbull and new CEO George Perry among those in attendance. Top of the agenda was the performance of Butcher with the defending champions languishing in mid-table and battling to shake off a series of on and off-field setbacks.

LaPaglia had no doubts Butcher should go but failed to attract any support and admitted afterwards: "There are some things which have happened at the club which I don't support but that's normal on a board where you have divergence of viewpoints.

"There are several different personalities but that's normal in any organisation. I still have no doubt that we remain good enough to defend the title successfully, even though the loss of Dwight Yorke was a blow because he is a player who galvanised the club and brought people to matches.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – FORGIVE AND BE FORGIVEN.

Can you think of a more terrifying thought than God not forgiving us our sins?

We know how much He paid so our sins could be forgiven! We know how much He loves us! We know how much He wants us to be in relationship with him! So why would He withhold His forgiveness? Because we demonstrate that we have not received it or do not understand it!

God is gracious and he will not accept those who are not gracious!

Loving Father, there are those that I do find it difficult to forgive. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, right now while I'm praying, soften my heart, cleanse my soul of any bitterness or resentment, and empower me to let go of the pain of the past, and forgive. I thank you for this grace to not only be forgiven, but also to forgive. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

AN elderly couple set off in their car to visit their daughter and grandchildren. It was a long journey from Sydney to Melbourne, so they took it in turns to drive.

While the wife was behind the wheel, the couple were pulled over by a police car.

An officer approached their car. "Madam, did you know you were speeding?" he asked, as the woman wound down the window.

The woman, hard of hearing, turned to her husband and asked: "What did he say?"

"He said you were speeding!" the old man yelled.

"I'll need to see your licence," said the policeman.

The woman turned to her husband again: "What did he say?"

The old man yelled back: "He wants to see your licence!"

The woman dug in her handbag, found her driving licence, and handed it over.

The policeman studied it. "I see you're from Sydney," he snorted. "I was posted there years ago... I remember going on a blind date with the ugliest woman I've ever seen."

The woman turned to her husband again and asked: "What did he say?"

The old man yelled: "He said he knows you!"

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – MORE AND MORE LIKE JESUS!

And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. - 2 Corinthians 3:18.

We are being ‘transformed’ into the image of Jesus, with ever increasing glory! Wow! How can you top that, what a promise! Praise the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus!

In other words, it's an ongoing process, but with the continual help of the Holy Spirit, we are going to arrive at our goal… to be like Jesus!

The point is, not to give up on our journey, but keep on looking to Jesus, and keep trusting that the Holy Spirit is doing God's work in us, making us more and more like Jesus each day.

Loving Father, forgive me for the times when I've let my faith grow complacent, and I've lost my focus on Jesus. By the power of the Holy Spirit, help me as I try to be more deliberate in my jorney, especially my spiritual maturity. Transform me, and make me more like Jesus each day. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Steve, Bruce and Kevin - were working on the site of a new skyscraper.

Steve fell off and was killed instantly. As the ambulance took the body away, Bruce said: "Someone should go and tell his wife."

Two hours later, he came back carrying a case of Fosters.

"Strewth," said Bruce. "Where did you get that, Kev?"

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – ONLY IN JESUS!

There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, neither male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. - Galatians 3:28.

Wouldn't it be great if we could tear down all the walls that separate us, racial, social, and gender.

The apostle Paul spent his entire life trying to do just that, to tear down the walls that separated people, by bringing them to Jesus and the cross. There are no positions of superiority or inferiority at the foot of the cross, only those who discover God's power displayed in sacrifice, and God's love displayed in the face of human cruelty.

While the forces of culture and human selfishness are always finding ways to separate us, we must remember that in Jesus, and only in Jesus, we can be one.

Loving Father, forgive me, when I have let discrimination and distrust keep me from fully loving those whom you have claimed as your children. By the power of the Holy Spirit, I pray that my life will be an example of deliverance and harmony, as I seek to love your children as you do. I ask this in the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – KNOWN PERSONALLY BY THE LORD!

Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don't be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. - Luke 12:6-7.

In a cosmos so vast, what is our little planet? In a planet so diverse and so full of life, what are people?

Among all the billions of people alive, and those who have lived and already died, what worth do we have? Well, Jesus reminds us that our worth is great, not because we are so important, but because we are known personally by God.

We don't have to be afraid, we are known personally, and loved by the One who is, and was, and is to come! Praise His wonderful name!

Loving Father, you already know my heart. You know where I struggle with sin, so empower and forgive me. You know my fears, so encourage and strengthen me. You know my immaturity, so nurture and grow me. You know my weakness and disease, so comfort and heal me. But even if these requests take time to be answered, I am still overwhelmed by the fact that you choose to know me, and for that I am eternally grateful, thank you! In the mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

A SOLICITOR was conducting a preliminary interview with a woman who'd come in to inquire about a divorce.

"So," he asked, "what are your grounds?"

She replied: "About four acres. Nice front garden, and a lovely pond at the bottom of the back garden."

"No," he said. "I mean, what's the foundation of your case?"

"Oh," she said, "I'm sure it's concrete, brick and mortar."

"I mean," he continued, "what are your relations like?"

"My parents still live just off the High Street, and my husband's mother's in a home."

"Yes, my son and daughter have stereos. They both want iPods, but we've said no."

"Madam, does your husband beat you up?"

CROCODILE HUNTER - Steve Irwin's family say their last farewll.

Steve Irwin was buried on Saturday, there will be a public Memorial service soon...

Steve Irwin was farewelled by family and friends yesterday after a private service on the Sunshine Coast.A close friend said a service was held at the Caloundra Gregson and Weight funeral home chapel and crematorium at 2pm. It is believed the service was a prelude to Irwin, 44, being buried at his beloved Australia Zoo.

The friend said Caloundra City Council officials this week gave the Irwin family permission to bury the Crocodile Hunter on family land near Australia Zoo. "Yesterday's service was a service for family and good friends, people who were close to Steve in recent years," the friend said. "The council gave the family permission to bury Steve at the zoo and we think they're going to erect a monument there so visitors can continue to pay their respects."

TV news reports last night speculated that Irwin's body would be laid to rest at Australia Zoo, either last night at a dusk service or after a dawn service today. Channel 9 showed helicopter footage of a white van with two police escort cars seen entering the zoo, suggesting that the vehicle was carrying Irwin's body.

Earlier, Irwin's manager John Stainton told US TV network CNN: "We are having a private family service in the next two or three days, by Monday. "Then we'll start planning the memorial service which will be open to members of the public."

Friends said Irwin had often expressed his desire to be buried at the zoo but family representatives would not confirm if the service had taken place. On Thursday, Irwin's father, Bob, declined an offer of a state funeral, saying the family would opt to farewell him at a private service for only family and close friends in "the next seven days".

He pledged that a public memorial service would be held in the next fortnight, with Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium a possible venue.A flood of tributes from around the world continued to arrive at Australia Zoo yesterday.

Mr Stainton said on CNN that the sombre atmosphere that followed Irwin's death was lifting as life got back to normal at the zoo at Beerwah, just north of Brisbane. "Steve loved this zoo, it was built for people to enjoy. We want people to come back and celebrate his life," he said.

Mr Stainton said Irwin's children -- Bindi, 8, and two-year-old Bob -- were handling their father's death "really well" thanks to the strength of their mother, Terri, who had suffered some sad moments since her husband was killed by a stingray's barb while snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef in north Queensland on Monday. "They're holding up quite well," Stainton told King.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – SALVATION.

But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ. - Philippians 3:7-8.

Paul had accomplished great things in his spiritual life before he became a Christian.

His commitment to God and to the Word of God was legendary. But he counted his past accomplishments as garbage, compared to knowing Christ and the grace he had received.

What he found in Jesus was salvation, not just deliverance from sin and death, but deliverance to a life of grace and power.

Loving Father, thank you for your grace that delivered me from legalism, pride, egotism, sin, and hopelessness. Thank you for the excellence you have given me in Jesus. By the power of the Holy Spirit, use me to help others come to know your grace more fully. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – THE LIVING WORD.

In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. - Hebrews 1:1-2. TNIV

Our God is a speaking God. He loves us and has chosen to get His message to us in words. First there were the patriarchs and great prophets, and then there was the written record in the Scriptures.

But God's greatest message, His most powerful words, were not really words at all, but a person named Jesus of Nazareth, who is Christ and Lord of all. For us, His Church, to be what He wants us to be, we must not just look at Scripture, but we must also look at Him.

He is the key to understanding what Scripture means, and how it is to be lived.

Loving Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, help me to see the work and purpose of Jesus more clearly. And as I open your word to seek and understand your will, guide me by your Spirit, so that I may know… "What Jesus would do?" In His wonderful and mighty name I pray.

SATURDAY'S SILLY JOKE!

JOCK and Archie were staggering home after a lock-in at the pub, and with the bravado that only a 10-pint session brings, decided to take a shortcut through the cemetery.

They had gone about 100 yards - reaching the darkest part of the graveyard, beside the trees, where the wind was softly brushing the branches, and just to make matters worse, the moon had just slipped behind the clouds.

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – AS CHRISTIANS, OUR BEST DAYS ARE UP AHEAD!

We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption, the redemption of our bodies. - Romans 8:22-23.

Life can be very difficult at times. Anyone who has lived long knows this.

At the same time, even our worst nightmares are staging periods for our great redemption. Our loneliest moments are the waiting room for our final adoption into the very presence and family of the King of Ages. With the Spirit living inside us, we are assured of the ultimate destination of our lives, no matter where the current scene in life's drama places us.

So let's live as those who are assured of their final destination but have not yet finally arrived, and not as those who have made their home, and placed their hope in what is present. Our best days lie ahead!

Loving Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, bless me with courage today so that I can face whatever obstacle may lie in my path, and give me the spirituality to do so with grace, dignity, and integrity, so that others may see my character and bring you glory. In Jesus' name I pray. Amen.

"Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. - Matthew 7:13-14.

The world wants a Saviour but not a Lord. The New Testament is very clear, a Saviour who is not Lord, is no Saviour and no friend.

If the Old Testament showed us anything, it is that God's seemingly strange laws were written not for his fascination, but for his people's preservation.

Let us not only call Jesus Lord this week, but let us live in a way that shows that He controls our lives, and His Spirit produces our character.

Loving Father, I thank you that Jesus is my Saviour and LORD. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit as you take control of my life and my will so that I may be totally yours, not just in word, but in thought and in deed as well. I ask this in the wonderful name of Jesus. Amen.

Some men came carrying a paralyzed man on a mat and tried to take him into the house to lay him before Jesus. – Luke 5:18.

What is the fullest definition of a friend?

The Bible offers us numerous definitions and examples. One of my favorite examples is this story of the paralyzed man whose friends went to great extremes to get him to Jesus. Their faith and their effort to get him to Jesus are the things that ultimately result in the man's forgiveness and healing.

I don't know about you, but that's the kind of friend I want to be!

Loving Father, help me by the power of the Holy Spirit to lead my friends to forgiveness and healing in Jesus. Give me the persistence and discretion to do this with gentleness and respect, without losing my sense of urgency to see them become Christians. In the wonderful and mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.

SATURDAY'S SILLY JOKE.

JOHN was sitting at home one evening, quietly watching the TV, when the doorbell rang.

When he opened the front door, a 6ft tall cockroach was standing on the doorstep.

Before John knew what was happening, the cockroach had punched him hard between the eyes and run off.

The next evening, John was making a cup of tea when the doorbell rang. And when he answered the door, the cockroach was there again. This time, it punched him in the stomach, and karate-chopped him on the back of the neck as he doubled up in pain. Before John could get to his feet, the cockroach had run away.

The third evening, John was again watching telly when the doorbell rang. Wary now, he opened the door halfway ... and the cockroach was there yet again. This time it shouldered the door open, leapt at John and stabbed him several times before running off.

Bleeding profusely, John managed to crawl to the telephone and dialled 999. An ambulance rushed him to intensive care, where they saved his life.

The next morning, the doctor was doing his rounds. He asked John what had happened, so he explained about the 6ft cockroach's attacks.

The doctor thought for a minute and said: "Yes, there's a nasty bug going around."

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – LORD JESUS, COME AND EAT WITH ME.

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with them, and they with me. To those who are victorious, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down with my Father on his throne. - Revelation 3: 20-21.

It has always fascinated me that this verse has often been cited by those calling others to conversion, when clearly in its context, it's written to lukewarm Christians needing to rekindle their love relationship to the Lord.

As believers, we need to invite the Lord Jesus into our hearts, our home, and lives. It's not that He's not there; it's just that he awaits our invitation, He will not barge in.

He only inhabits hearts into which He has been invited!

Lord Jesus, I know you long to share your presence and fellowship with me. I know you are nearby as I draw each breath. But I confess that I am often unaware, and even sometimes unappreciative of your presence. I ask you this day to come into my heart and fill my life with your presence and comfort and power. I want my life to be lived for you and with you. I ask this in your wonderful name. Amen.

A lot of people have their opinions about Jesus’ identity.

The real issue, however, is what you believe about Jesus. What you decide about God’s Son means everything for you, and for those you influence.

So listen to Jesus' question to His disciples as if He is asking it of you: “Who do you say I am?” I pray that your answer is the same as Peter’s: “God's Messiah.”

Loving Father, thank you for Jesus, who is my Lord, Saviour, friend, and older brother in your family. I praise you for sending him to reveal yourself to us, and I thank you for your lovedemonstrated by him on the Cross. I do believe that Jesus is the Messiah, and the only Saviour who can bring freedom, pardon, cleansing, and complete salvation. In the wonderful name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Being devoted to another in love requires that our church conversations… we're family, brothers and sisters, children of God, must be more than mere words.

We must enter each others lives, getting to know one another so that we can serve, love, and bless each other. What have you done lately to get more involved in the lives of your fellow Christians?

Devotion to others follows a commitment to know, and be known by them!

Loving Father, thank you for giving me a world-wide family. Thank you for loving me so completely. Father I ask that you help me by the power of the Holy Spirit be more open with myself, and my time to those in your family. THE SILLY SATURDAY JOKE

THOMAS was posted to another monastery, one that still did things the traditional way. He was assigned to help the other monks in copying the old texts by hand.

He noticed, however, that they were copying from copies, not the original manuscripts.

So, since it was his first day, Thomas went to the Abbot to ask him about this, pointing out that if there was a mistake in the first copy, that mistake would be continued in all of the following copies.

The Abbot said: "We have been copying from the copies for centuries, but you make a good point, Brother Thomas."

So, he went down into the cellar with one of the copies to check it against the original.

Hours passed and nobody saw him. So, Thomas went downstairs to look for him.

Hearing weeping coming from the back of the cellar, he found the old Abbot leaning over one of the original manuscripts, sobbing his heart out.

Brother Thomas asked the Abbot what was wrong, and in a broken voice came the reply: "The word is celebrate."

Having stood over the open graves of friends, family members, and strangers, I know the appearance and feel of death's finality, and our human frailty.

But Christ's death is that great reminder that death is a matter of perspective and faith. I believe God raised Jesus from the dead and that He is the first fruits of those of us who believe in Him.

He is alive, not just in Spirit, but in bodily form, and because of this, we will be too!

Loving Father, thank you for the gifts of your grace, Spirit, forgiveness and life. Most of all, thank you for the gift of your Son, who brought life and immortality to me through His death and resurrection. While I have no great desire to die, I know I can by the power of the Holy Spirit, look through death to you, and your victory in me through Jesus. Give me the courage to live for you every day, until that day when you take me home. In the wonderful Name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

Australia has qualified for the knockout stage of the 2006 World Cup with a 2-2 draw to Croatia in its final Group F match today.

Harry Kewell struck a late equaliser in the 79th minute to put Australia into the last 16 of the World Cup where it will meet Italy.Croatia led 1-0 after Darijo Srna scored from a free kick in the third minute.

Australia equalised with a Craig Moore penalty shot after 38 minutes.Croatia's second goal was scored by Niko Kovac in the 56th minute.

In a tense final 10 minutes both teams were left with 10 men as Brett Emerton and Dario Simic were both marched for second bookable offences.

Croatian defender Josip Simunic was sent off on the final whistle for his third bookable offence, referee Graham Poll forgetting to march him a few minutes earlier.

Compassion is not for personal glory, just as it is not a private internal emotion.

Christian compassion must always motivate us to act in the best interest, and for the greater good of those that are disadvantaged, without calling attention to ourselves or our sacrifices.

God provides what we need to bless others, and takes care of the reward when our goal is to please Him, and to be used by Him to bless others who are disadvantaged.

Loving Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, use me each day to be a blessing to someone in need. Please open my eyes and ears to see those around me who need emotional or physical support, or financial help. Please give me the courage to bless them, and lead them closer to you. James always packs a lot into a small space, but let us focus on the centre of this call to holiness: let's draw ourselves closer to God.

When we come into God's presence and draw close to Him, we know our thoughts, our motives, and our behaviours, will be seen for what they are in the light of His holiness and righteousness. At the same time, we know that the devil is forced out by the radiance of our Father's holy life.

Let us seek after God, let us long to draw near to Him. Let's ask Him to cleanse us and make us wholly His, and make us completely holy!

Loving Father, I thank you for your love and forgiveness. By the power of the Holy Spirit, help me as I seek to draw closer to you, and as I seek to know you better. Purify my heart of any duplicity or secret sin. Cleanse my conscience, and empower me to be an example of your grace and holiness. I ask this in the wonderful Name of Jesus. Amen.

What a game this was! This is whyI love Australian Football! This game was played in pouring rain, and the most courageous won in the end!

Luke ball was carried off in a stretcher after colliding with one of his own teamates, he was rushed to hospital, with blood flowing from his mouth, but when the Saints sung the victory song, there was Ball who rushed back from hospital, his face swollen and bruised, to rejoice with his teamates!
Nick Riewoldt was the man of the match. He played out of his skin tonight, absolutely marvellous!

That's us back in 5th place in the ladder, and next week we play the form team, Adelaide Crows.

FRIDAY SCREAMER!

Three men were hiking through a forest when they came upon a large raging violent river. Needing to get on the other side, the first man prayed,"God, please give me the strength to cross the river."

Poof! God gave him big arms and strong legs and he was able to swim across in about 2 hours, having almost drowned twice.

After witnessing that, the second man prayed,"God, please give me strength and the tools to cross the river."

Poof! God gave him a rowboat and strong arms and strong legs and he was able to row across in about an hour after almost capsizing once.

Seeing what happened to the first two men, the third man prayed, "God, please give me the strength, the tools and the intelligence to cross the river."

Poof! He was turned into a woman. She checked the map, hiked one hundred yards up stream and walked across the bridge.

The two thousand member Baptist church was filled to overflowing capacity one Sunday morning.

The preacher was ready to start the sermon when two men, dressed in long black coats and black hats entered thru the rear of the church.One of the two men walked to the middle of the church while the other stayed at the back of the church. They both then reached under their coats and withdrew automatic weapons.

The one in the middle announced, "Everyone willing to take a bullet for Jesus stay in your seats!" Naturally, the pews emptied, followed by the choir. The deacons ran out the door, followed by the choir director and the assistant pastor.

After a few moments, there were about twenty people left sitting in the church. The preacher was holding steady in the pulpit.The men put their weapons away and said, gently, to the preacher, "All right, pastor, the hypocrites are gone now. You may begin the service."

ABUNDANT LIFE!

A little boy who lived far out in the country in the late 1800s had reached the age of twelve and had never in all his life seen a circus. You can imagine his excitement, when one day a poster went up at school announcing that on the next Saturday a traveling circus was coming to the nearby town.

He ran home with the glad news and the question, "Daddy, can I go?" Although the family was poor, the father sensed how important this was to the lad. "If you do your Saturday chores ahead of time," he said, "I'll see to it that you have the money to go."'

Come Saturday morning, the chores were done and the little boy stood by the breakfast table, dressed in his Sunday best. His father reached down into the pocket of his overalls and pulled out a dollar bill-the most money the little boy had possessed at one time in all his life. The father cautioned him to be careful and then sent him on his way to town.

The boy was so excited, his feet hardly seemed to touch the ground all the way. As he neared the outskirts of the village, he noticed people lining the streets, and he worked his way through the crowd until he could see what was happening. Lo and behold, it was the approaching spectacle of a circus parade! The parade was the grandest thing this lad had ever seen. Caged animals snarled as they passed, bands beat their rhythms and sounded shining horns, midgets performed acrobatics while flags and ribbons swirled overhead.

Finally, after everything had passed where he was standing, the traditional circus clown, with floppy shoes, baggy pants, and a brightly painted face, brought up the rear. As the clown passed by, the little boy reached into his pocket and took out that precious dollar bill. Handing the money to the clown, the boy turned around and went home. What had happened? The boy thought he had seen the circus when he had only seen the parade!

Are you experiencing all that God has for you? The Christian life is a marvelous adventure, an exciting journey. Many people-including Christians-seem to be content to float in a sea of mediocrity, settling for second best. Do you want the abundant life that Jesus promised? Do you want to live life to its fullest?

Then aim higher. Don't set your sights too low. Determine to become all that God created you to be. Give yourself to Christ, follow Him completely, and allow the Holy Spirit to work in you and through you.

We sing when we are happy, we sing when we are heartbroken, but today we sing out of gratitude.

God is not only worthy of all of our praise, He is worthy of all of our thankfulness. And the origin of all our songs is Jesus, and the declaration of the good news that brings life to us, through Him.

As that message, the word of Christ fills our hearts, we are tuned to be thankful children of the Most High.

Loving Father, I am so thankful today, for all the many blessings you have poured into my life. Your love, grace, mercy, and forgiveness give me hope for the future. Your gift of Jesus gives me life today, and promises life tomorrow. The incredible physical blessings, as well as the blessings of family and friends, are wonderful. But the greatest of all blessings, Lord, is the assurance that I will one day see you face- to-face, and share your glorious presence forever. In the wonderful and mighty Name Jesus I pray. Amen.

I don't want to be any more exclusive than Jesus, but I do want to hear His voice, because He calls me to find the way to the Father through Him.

I also know that others must know Him, to find their way to the Father, too. Why can we not be more passionate about those around us, who do not really know Jesus as their Saviour, Redeemer, and Lord?

How can the first four books of our New Testament be read and ignored?

Loving Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, give me a passion for Jesus, and a heart that knows Him in word, deed, and concern. I ask this in the wonderful Name of Jesus. Amen.

Someone once said... “I would rather see a sermon any day, than hear one.”

I'm not distressed because people want to “see a sermon,” but because so many of us don't “practice what we preach.”

As leaders, whether as friends, parents, or in positions of authority, our principal tool of influence, is our life of character (or lack of it). Do you practice what you “preach?” All of us who seek to influence others MUST!

Why? Because most people need to both hear and see the message, before it becomes a part of them.

Loving Father, forgive me for not being a visual sermon. Help me by the power of the Holy Spirit, to walk the walk, and talk the talk. Equip me, and make me fit for your service. I know I can't do any of those without your power and grace transforming my life. In the wonderful Name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

OLD Fred had been a religious man and was in hospital, near death.

His minister visited him and as he stood at the bedside the old man's condition started to deteriorate. Fred motioned frantically for something to write on.

The minister handed him a pen and a piece of paper and watched as Fred scribbled with his last gasp and passed away. Moved, the minister put the paper in his pocket.

At the funeral, as he finished the service, he felt the paper in his pocket. He told the mourners: "Old Fred handed me a note just before he died. I haven't read it, but knowing him I'm sure there will be inspiration for us all."

He opened the note and read out loud: "You're standing on my oxygen tube!"

SUNDAY SERMON ON THE BLOG – HOW TO SURVIVE A LONG AGONY!

Answer me when I call to you, my righteous God. Give me relief from my distress; have mercy on me and hear my prayer. - Psalm 4:1.

At first, this cry for help seems very demanding. However, closer inspection shows that this is really the cry of desperation.

Have you been there? I surely have, and I regularly hear from other Christians, who are there now. But, read how this Psalm ends! What is the secret to surviving a long agony? I believe three things are important:

1. Honesty in our prayer life with God.
2. Confidence that God hears, and cares even when our prayers sizzle with pain and frustration.
3. Genuine praise for God included in our prayers, even when things seem miserable.

It's not a magical formula, but it is a Spirit-inspired one... check it out in Psalm 4!

Loving Father, hear my cry for relief, as well as the relief of those I love, from agony, burdens, and suffering. By the power of the Holy Spirit, answer in amazing and miraculous ways, so that we may not only be relieved, but in such a way that you may be glorified. In the wonderful Name of Jesus I pray. Amen.

It was a game marred with controversy, similar to last week's game against the dockers! What I can't understand, the AFL change lot's of rules, the players get penalised for not obeying them, but it is the umpires who don't know how to interpret the rules correctly!

Let's hope they get it all sorted out soon, for everybody's sake!

SAINTS TO BITE BACK!

After the Launceston debacle of last week, the Saints are ready to bite back at the bulldogs today!

It was good to see the great attitude displayed by the Saints, when the AFL commission deliberated, and awarded the points to relieved Dockers…

"I hope we've set a standard in this industry. The game has no place in the courts of this land. The game ought to be contested on the field," said the Club president Rod Butterss.

"To be honest, it hasn't affected me either way. The only thing that might have made a difference is whether we received the two points or not. They might've helped us towards the end of the year but we won't know that until the end of the season." said Andrew Thompson, who celebrates his 200th game today.

Congratulations Thommo! It’s a great attitude and a fantastic feat for someone who started their first senior game at the ripe old age of 24!

The Saints have put the debacle behind them, and are ready to unleash their mighty talent, against a Bulldog side that got thrashed last week by the Crows.

Let’s get out there Sainter’s, and put the dismal dogs back in the doghouse!

Tithing in this country is a bigger story than initially meets the eye. Every local newspaper should be doing stories on tithing. It matters.

Tithing in Prince George’s County, Maryland, helps make it one of the top five counties in the country for charitable giving, according to a Washington Post story earlier this month. That alone is a huge story and was well-treated in a thorough report:

Tithing, an ancient practice described in the Bible, is particularly strong in African American communities, where it is reinforced by centuries of family tradition. That has helped propel Prince George’s into the top five counties in the nation for charitable giving, as documented by a Chronicle of Philanthropy study based on donations as a percentage of income.

A Washington Post analysis using the same data found that 14 of the top 20 Zip codes for per capita giving in the region were in Prince George’s.

Across the spectrum of faiths, religious institutions draw much of the nation’s charitable money, accounting for three out of every four dollars given, the chronicle’s study of 2002 IRS data found. In African American communities, the figure is closer to nine out of every 10 dollars.

Tithing is clearly a huge driver behind charitable giving in the United States. According to this Beliefnet article, Americans give away an average of 3 percent of their wealth. Tithers, by definition, give more. But what kind of charity is it? Where does that money go?

In Prince George’s, tithing has played a major role in supporting churches — helping provide the capital, for example, to develop the 73.8-acre campus of Jericho City of Praise, a megachurch in Landover, and pay off its mortgage in seven years.

Gone are the days when religious institutions were the center of a community’s charity. That story has been written many times, but what about the stories on what churches are now doing with their time and money? I know the easy answer is that churches have been removed from their once-held prominent spot in community life, but that can’t be the only answer.

To make things even more interesting, many congregants are now giving through direct deposit rather than during worship services.

A Cincinnati Enquirer article, also published earlier this month, highlights that theme quite nicely:

More than a year ago, officials at St. Catharine of Siena Catholic Church in Westwood opted not to automate collections.

“It just gives people another excuse not to attend Mass,” said Ferd Schneider, the church’s business manager.

Others have scriptural objections.

“Giving is an act of worship, and it’s pretty hard to worship when you’re not participating,” said Jack Wilkerson, vice president of business and finance for the executive committee at the Southern Baptist Convention, the largest Protestant denomination in the United States.

“We believe this is about being true to Scripture and not about bringing in money,” he said. “If Scripture meant that you should send it, it would have said send it.”

Tithing makes up a great part of American giving, as the Washington Post demonstrated. It’s something that journalists should keep their eyes on, especially since it should be readily available through the Internal Revenue Service or directly from congregations.

A while back I watched Edward De Bono on television, and he was talking about simplicity, and how business and governments need to set up departments for making things simple.

It started me thinking about my life as a Christian, and the need to simplify, in order not to confuse people who enquire about Christianity. As an example, it absolutely amazes me that whenever I go into a bookshop, I see so many books concerning WORRY… rows upon rows of self-help on how to avoid worry and some of them are very pricey! (Especially to a Scotsman!)

Even in Christian Bookshops I see the same thing; it astounds me that so many people are charging us a lot of money, to teach us something that was taught about in the Bible thousands of years ago!

Many years ago, I got rid of a lot of my reference books, and started concentrating on the teachings of Jesus, because it was confusing to say the least, that so many people complicate the Gospel, in fact it was distracting me from Him and no doubt I was distracting others.

I find His teaching so easy to understand, and yet so many people try to turn them into some kind of intellectual exercise. Jesus came as a common man, lived as common person, spoke the common language and turned religious thinking on its head...

"If you decide for God, living a life of God-worship, it follows that you don't fuss about what's on the table at mealtimes or whether the clothes in your closet are in fashion. There is far more to your life than the food you put in your stomach, more to your outer appearance than the clothes you hang on your body.

Look at the birds, free and unfettered, not tied down to a job description, careless in the care of God. And you count far more to him than birds. "Has anyone by fussing in front of the mirror ever gotten taller by so much as an inch?

All this time and money wasted on fashion--do you think it makes that much difference? Instead of looking at the fashions, walk out into the fields and look at the wildflowers. They never primp or shop, but have you ever seen color and design quite like it? The ten best-dressed men and women in the country look shabby alongside them.

"If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers--most of which are never even seen--don't you think he'll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you?

What I'm trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God's giving. People who don't know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works.

Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don't worry about missing out. You'll find all your everyday human concerns will be met. "Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes. - Matt 6:25-34. (The Message New Testament).

Let’s simplify our walk with Him, and live the way He wants us to, by listening, and putting into practice what He says.
